Sir David Bell KBE was appointed Chair of Chapel St Community Schools Trust from Tuesday 1 April. Sir David has been a member of the Chapel St Community Trust Advisory Board since 2008. He replaces Baroness Maeve Sherlock OBE, the Trust’s first Chair. Baroness Sherlock will continue as Chair of the Chapel St Community group.
On his appointment as Chair, Sir David said: “This is an exciting time to become Chair of Chapel St Community Schools Trust; the Trust is growing rapidly with four schools now in our family of schools and more joining in months to come. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful job Maeve has done in Chairing the Advisory Board thus far and I look forward to leading the board as the Trust grows further.”
Dr Russell Rook, CEO and co-founder of Chapel St, said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming Sir David as Chair of Chapel St Community Schools Trust; as one of our longest supporters, he has been a great friend to Chapel St, ever challenging us to achieve more and championing our vision and ethos. David was the first person to teach me that every young person deserves at least one adult who is irrationally committed to their success. Together, we look forward to serving thousands of families under his wise and passionate chairmanship.”
Sir David is also Chair of Council at Roehampton University – a partner of Chapel St Community Schools Trust and the Chair of Cambridge University Press. In addition he is Director, Secretary and Treasurer of ImagineNations; Governor at Worth School in Sussex; International Chair of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting; and Chairman of Sadler’s Wells.
